New truck 1 year out . Peterbilt discontinuing 389. | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

Field testing and conditioning. Stuff it in trucks that people want so they get to experince all the bugs that get ironed out before killing a beloved and desired model and look so when introduceing a new one with this planned feature it will be as seamless as posible to keep anger to a minimum. It also gets people used to the idea of a digital dash.

Remimber a LOT of people HATE plastic trucks, so getting rid of the hoods is going to cause backlash to begin with. Getting rid of hoods with a new buggy design that spends a lot of time as a shop queen is going to take things from angry and annoyed to outright hostility. Combine that with altering even the comfortable well known interior and even more people are going to balk. Putting this system in a current model gets people more used to the idea and helps them figure out the real world use problems without also shoving a likely unwelcome design on people.
