Stood up to a shipper today | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

If I’m allowed to name names, I will.

My empty weight, with full tanks is 28k. I can legally put 52k on the deck.

Rate con says 46k for crushed cars out of the Chicago area, and they’re always putting more on than they should.

I’m willing to take 48k, but they claim the agreement they have with the broker is no truck leaves under 78k.

I’ve had enough. Today, I was scaling out and was at 76,900. They went to send me back to get another car put on, and I said:

“Then he can take it all off. The rate con says 46k and I’m tired of you guys overloading me.”

Scale guy relays it to the boss, and the response was a sigh and said fine.

I told the scale guy it was nothing against him, but getting a flat rate does not warrant extra weight. He agreed with me, gave me my paperwork and sent me on my way.

A little curious as to what’ll happen next time when they put 50k on me and I tell them I’m going back to have a car taken off.

Here’s the thing folks. I don’t care if it’s the industry standard, and I don’t care what agreement they have with the broker. You want me to haul more weight, then pay by the hundred weight and not a flat rate. Make it worth it.
If they up the weight on the rate con, but not the rate, I’ll DH home, and never go back to that shipper.

Will it hurt them? Not likely. But I’m not going to kill my truck because they want to try and bully me into hauling freight for free, because that’s what that is.
