Rant plus some much needed advice or warnings
Became unemployed last year (landscaping) and decided to get into trucking for a career change.
I test out very soon and my main focus is getting set up in the right direction within this industry. I understand, #### happens but I want to avoid rushing into a crappy situations and regretting it later. Long term goals so far O/O maybe in the livestock/AG hual industry, or timber.
Right now though I’m looking at everything but focused on flatbed/ heavy huals or tanker training/jobs, I’m not afraid of physical labor so flatbed is promising. I hate the idea of going with mega carriers (long contracts are concering) but I understand how useful I can make it getting through my first year and so forth because I don’t have connections/experience yet.
My situation, I’m in Middle Ga buying a house with my spouse of 11 years (no kids, just dogs) so no moving for awhile and avoiding OTR, if possible. (I’ll do what I need to do if it benefits enough) Regional would be ideal.
I’m female, I’m concerned about shortage of trainers (waitlist) that I’m hearing about with places.
Full service terminal near by if possible, even just a yard or trucks come home. (Rat race situation that is ATL)
I unfortunately will have the Manual restriction and no endorsements, it’s important to me to get those.
Luckily enough to be in the situation that spouse is able to help with everything until I get my butt in the door but money is where its at so paid anything is a positive and $$ talks but great training or mentoring is more important at this stage for me.
I’ve talked to CRST and Schneider recuiters so far and have applied regardless.
