Those of you worried about self-driving trucks taking your jobs, don’t worry | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

A year ago, a couple of these start-up tech firms announced that they already had fully autonomous trucks hauling freight on highways. Fully autonomous means level 5 with no human safety monitor onboard. That turned out to be fake news. All of their trucks had humans onboard, so they really weren’t autonomous. As the video stated in my original post, these safety monitors need to take action less than 1% of the time, which means that the trucks wouldn’t have made it from point A to B without human intervention. That’s not autonomous.

Also, we all know how little carriers pay drivers. Yard workers and loaders probably make as much or more than many drivers. So stating that the work on the loading and delivering ends is being done by lower paid workers isn’t realistic.

I stand by my original statement that it’s all a pipedream.
