They’re terrible at updating pay, you’d think they would stay on top of this. They had 3 pay increases in the last months. I was supposed to hire in at $28. and some change and got the mentioned 29.97 and we recently got a raise to $30.33
Sucks that USPS doesn’t give any bonus pay for holiday work except Christmas, but I want to sell the days back anyway for 2 weeks additional vacation time like they supposedly allow after you become regular.
Yes, you can do this.
Appreciate the information about management & route, how is the list from PTF to regular looking?
This greatly varies on where you’re out of, we just had a guy transfer from Portland, OR who said guys made regular as soon as they made their 90 probation. In my area it’s more 1-1 1/2 to convert
From the contract, it seems like it’s supposed to be a 90/10 ratio of PTF to regular, does that sound about right to you?
We got about 160 regulars and 40 PTF’s
Do they work you generally minimum 8hr days?
I read they only have to offer 4hrs guaranteed, or do they only use you for regular routes which are 8hr planned anyway?
I think they say the 4 hour thing because they have too, I’ve never seen a PTF work less than 8. Everyone gets their hours.
5 or 6 days a week?
Dealer choice, up to you on this one.
Same start times or random/rotating?
if your unassigned, they vary but they keep it within your “tour” tour 1 is nights, 2 is days 3 is swing. So if you’re on Tour 3 the start time can be anywhere from noon to 5 and vary each day. You can also bid on a holddown, if a position is vacant for more than 10 days it has to go to bid so as a PTF you can have a set schedule. We had a guy get hurt and a PTF won his vacancy and has a set schedule for at least the next 6 months. I just came off a 6 week hold down myself.
In the current USPS contract, they have “alternative” work schedule provisions for 4/10s instead of standard 5/8s;
do any TTOs or maintenance positions you know of have that as an option due to choice/operational demand, or are 5/8s the gospel?
I haven’t heard of this, but the one thing I do know of is you can claim a “hardship” to not work nights. I don’t know why’s you’d do this, I love nights and you should be forwarned it’s a lot of city driving so it’s nice working tour 1
Out of over 100 feeder runs at my hub, only 3 are 4/10s & those guys are wanting to screw those up by working their 5th day for OT…
I’m not too well versed is this, I just know there’s the 8 and skate crowed so don’t want to stay a second more than they have to and then there’s the guys who live here. Depending on your supervisor you can get OT as a PTF as well.
