Worth it to get back into trucking? | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

I’ve been out of the industry for three years now. Trucked OTR for three years until 2020. Last year, My CDL was “cancelled”, and I was told verbally by a dmv official that all I need to do to get it renewed is to go get a dot medical certificate and bring it to the dmv in person. Hoping that’s the truth, and that they won’t make me do the road test all over again.

Anyway, just wondering if it’s worth it. My farm/homestead could use some more money to take things to the next level, and I just don’t see how to make it work trying to bootstrap it forward.

In 2020 I got sick of the situation with the goody-two-shoes consignees demanding temperature checks with space suits just to back a trailer into a dock. The company I was working for at the time tried to badger me into going along with all this biosecurity theatre nonsense all the time. I didn’t want to have any of it, and I knew the big V was going to come out of all that. I rcould see the writing on the wall. Now I’ve heard that things have pretty much “gone back to normal.” But I’m still wary. Apparently a year ago most companies were gaslighting their drivers into taking guinea pig medical injections and even threatening employment over it. How are things on that front nowadays? V-passport requirement to renew a CDL? Are drivers still having to wear face diapers to check-in and tiptoe around mazes of plexiglass and frightened germaphobes that like to bully others?

Are there any good companies left that don’t have driver-facing cameras? Are the trucks pretty much driving themselves now? Is it even possible to make any money or are the companies now forced to look at the equation of paying the diesel vs. paying the driver? What’s new? What’s old?
